In case you have never heard of them, here they are :

  1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

  3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

  5. Beliefs should conform to one’s best science understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

  6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

  7. Every Tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

If you already follow these principles, intentionally or not, then woohoo ! You’re a Satanist just like me 😈
(But only if you’re okay with it, of course)

My name is Sordid, I use they/them pronouns, and I’m a Satanist.

Now, what does “Satanism” mean to me ?

It means that, as a Satanist, I do not believe in a literal Satan, Lucifer, Hell, Demons or really anything spiritual.

It also means that no, I do not hate God because I do not believe in His existence, nor do I hate religions or believers.

It just means that I’m an Atheist doing their best to follow and apply the Seven Tenets of The Satanic Temple in their everyday life.

Who am I ?

Once again, I do not have anything personal against God, religions or any religious person. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone involved or not involved in it, I sincerely think having faith as a believer must be a beautiful and powerful thing. It helps people get through difficult situations like losing a job, grieving the loss of loved ones, fighting addictions, health or mental health problems (as long as these people also and mainly seek professional help, I do not have anything against faith if it helps people feel better, on the contrary).

The idea of having a community of people based around faith in something greater, in loving one another (believers or non-believers, queer people, etc.), being there for each other in moments of joy but also hardships… It really warms my heart, and I see why so many people need it in their life.

And if you have this faith and it’s really important to you, I want you to keep it as close to your heart as you can and let no one take it away from you. And I wish you all your best on your journey with God, even though I do not believe He exists.

Hail Satan, but most importantly   Hail Yourself !
